Contest for Dhanbad seat becomes interesting with entry of Anupma Singh

Thursday, 18 April 2024 | Pankaj | Dhanbad

Contest for Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat has become interesting with the entry of Anupma  Singh as Congress candidate.

Anupma happens to be  daughter -in -law of  veteran  Congress and trade union leader Late Rajendra Singh and wife  of his son and current MLA of  Bermo Kumar Jaimangal alias  Anoop Singh.

Despite not being in the party list  of candidates  sent from state office probably on the insistence of Anup, the party decided to name her the candidate..

Rajendra Singh was a well known party  activist and labor leader, who ruled trade union  INTUC for decades and had a good grip on the labour class associated with the coal and steel  industry in Dhanbad and Bokaro. Party wants to encash the popularity of Rajendar Singh during this election.

Interestingly, both Congress and BJP candidates happen to be outsiders as far as Dhanbad Lok Sabha constituency is concerned.

With announcement of name of  Anupma  BJP candidate Dhullu Mahto  now gets a comparatively strong candidate  as far as party cadre base as well as finances are concerned.

But still the million dollar question is  will  Congress  repeat history it had created in  2004?

This became an instant point of discussion as her name came in. Then   Palamu, Vishrampur MLA cum labor leader Dadai Dubey when was given party ticket defeated sitting  BJP MP prof Rita Verma with a comfortable margin of a lakh votes.

Again the same situation  has come for voters of  Koylanchal  to choose between two outsiders. Anupama Singh though new to  politics of Dhanbad heavily depends on  the face of  her husband Anoop Singh and late father-in-law Rajendra Singh.

Interestingly, both Congress and BJP face internal rifts due to selection of party candidates. It would be time that would  tell who would win  as both BJP and Congress candidates  happen to be financially strong  and there happen  to be a huge lot of disgruntled people on both sides.
