The “Remove Plastic, Save Environment” campaign was launched in New Delhi at 10:30 am on Monday. The initiative, under the leadership of Shobha Vijender, founder president of Sampurna, commenced at District Park Sector 9, Rohini, specifically in the vegetable and fruit market adjacent to Vinoba Kunj Apartment.
Before the launch, Vijender, along with Smita Kaushik, MCD Councillor, and former MCD Councillor Chitra Aggarwal, addressed the gathering, raising awareness about the harmful effects of plastic bags. Students from NK Bagdodia School, RWA members, students of Rukmani Devi Institute, and Sampurna volunteers actively participated in the campaign, with Rohini residents enthusiastically joining the cause. Visitors to the market were attracted to and actively engaged with Sampurna’s campaign, receiving appreciation.
Vijender emphasised the use of cloth bags, and participants in Sampurna’s campaign, including children whose slogans of “No, No Plastic” resonated powerfully, involved the nearby crowd. Sampurna operates on a five-point agenda to save the environment, with cloth bags being a key aspect. Volunteers distributed these bags to vegetable vendors, reaching hundreds of people with this resolution.
Dr Vijender said the representatives of the vegetable and fruit market assured Sampurna that they would no longer use plastic bags.
