Reviving Bengali theatre culture: Theatre stalwarts to stage ‘Tringso Satabdi’

Thursday, 04 April 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In a bid to resurrect the once vibrant Bengali theatre scene in Jamshedpur, the Jamshedpur Cultural Organisation (JCO) has taken a bold step forward. Amidst the waning interest in traditional theatre forms due to the overpowering influence of social media and smart television, JCO aims to reignite the passion for theatre among the city's residents, particularly the younger generation.

As part of its efforts, the famous play "Tringso Satabdi" will be staged at Rabindra Bhawan, Jamshedpur, on April 6, 2024, at 6:30 pm. All theatre enthusiasts have been invited to witness this compelling production and support the revitalization of Bengali theatre culture in Jamshedpur.

Approximately a decade ago, numerous Bengali theatre associations thrived in Jamshedpur, presenting a diverse array of plays to enthusiastic audiences. However, over the years, this cultural heritage has gradually faded into obscurity, leaving only a handful of dedicated groups striving to keep the flame alive. Recognizing the urgent need to preserve and promote this rich cultural tradition, JCO has embarked on a mission to rejuvenate the theatre scene in the city.

As part of their efforts, JCO has chosen to stage "Tringso Satabdi," a poignant play written by the renowned playwright Badal Sarkar. The play delves into the harrowing aftermath of the historic atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, shedding light on the devastating consequences of war and violence. Through powerful storytelling and compelling performances, "Tringso Satabdi" aims to provoke thought and evoke emotions, resonating with audiences on a profound level.

Under the direction of the esteemed Shiba Prasad Banerjee, a veteran of the Jamshedpur theatre scene, the play promises to captivate audiences with its blend of seasoned actors and fresh talent. With meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of production, including lighting by Probir Chatterjee and music by Sucheta Mishra, "Tringso Satabdi" is set to deliver a mesmerizing theatrical experience.

The cast includes Biswajit Kundu as Sadhan, Shiba Prasad Banerjee as Sarot, Siddhartha Sen as Ferebi, Mousumi Banerjee as Itharli, Suraj Ray as Dr. Oshada, Jenobia Mishra as Eiko Matsunaga, Sarthok Karmokar as Eiosiuro Kimura, Amit Das as Anemen, and Siddhartha Sen providing advice.
