In the midst of Lok Sabha elections, the Samajwadi party appointed Shyam Lal Pal as its UP unit president.

A native of Prayagraj district, Pal has replaced Naresh Uttam Patel, who is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Fatehpur Lok Sabha constituency.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav made this appointment keeping in mind the stakes in the Backward, Dalit and minority i.e. PDA (Pichhada, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) vote bank.

Shyam Lal Pal is a resident of Mohiuddinpur, a small town in the Pratappur assembly constituency in the Prayagraj district and retired from the post of principal of Jan Seva Inter College in Mohiuddinpur.

SP national secretary Rajendra Chaudhary said Naresh Uttam had written a letter to the party national president Akhilesh Yadav to relieve him from the post.

“His request has been accepted and Pal has been made the new state president. Presently Pal was holding the post of state vice-president in the

party," Chaudhary said. Presently Pal was holding the post of state vice

president in the party, he added.

He has been associated with the Samajwadi Party since 2007. He was first made the party’s state secretary before being elevated to the post of chief general secretary and then state vice-president of the party.

In 2007, Shyam Lal Pal contested the assembly elections from the Pratappur constituency on the Apna Dal ticket but had to face defeat. After that, he joined the Samajwadi Party.
