In a gruesome incident in the State, a Spanish woman, who was on a tour with her husband on motorbikes was gang-raped late on Friday night in Dumka district.

After the incident, the 28 year old Spanish woman has been admitted to Saraiyahat CHC. After first treatment at Saraiyahat CHC, she was sent to Dumka medical college and hospital. The woman is reaching Dumka by bike from Saraiyahat under police protection.

The incident took place near Kurmahat of Hansdiha police station area. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar reached the spot late in the night and detained three people.

The Spanish woman had gone on a bike tour with her husband. She was going towards Bhagalpur via Dumka. Meanwhile, at around 12:00 in the night, she pitched a tent and slept at a deserted place before Hansdiha market.

In the night some youths from the nearby area reached the site and gang-raped her. The couple was also beaten up and robbed. The victim reached Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital by bike.

After assaulting the victim, the youths fled away from the spot. The woman informed the police about the incident that happened to her. After this she has been admitted to Saraiyahat CHC. Dumka SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar said that the victim has told that five-six people have committed the incident. He said that three people have been detained. “Medical examination of the woman has been done. The victim Spanish woman is being brought to Dumka after first aid,” he added.

In the morning the police reached the spot to investigate. Along with the police team, a team of experts from the forensic department also reached the spot to investigate. On the other hand, the victimized foreign woman herself reached Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital in Dumka on her bike for examination. The police team escorted her.

On the seventh day of the Jharkhand Assembly budget session, MLAs from the ruling party and the opposition created a ruckus in the House to discuss the gang rape of a Spanish woman in Dumka and the Prime Minister's statement. When the House proceedings started again at 12.04, BJP MLAs came to the Well and created ruckus over the gang rape of a Spanish woman in Dumka whereas JMM MLA, Sudivya Sonu demanded a special discussion in the House on the Prime Minister's statement. After this, MLAs from the ruling party and the opposition started raising slogans in the well. Due to the uproar, the proceedings of the House were adjourned till 2 pm.

The case of gang rape of a foreign woman in Dumka also echoed in the budget session of Jharkhand Assembly. MLA Amit Mandal raised this issue and said that such an incident has brought bad name to Jharkhand in the whole world. He said that this incident tarnished the reputation of the State in the Country and abroad. He also demanded immediate removal of Dumka SP. He said that the Government should take strict action in this matter and no one should be spared.
