Assam CM reviews preparations for 'Sewa Saptah'

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today chaired a video conference from Lok Sewa Bhawan with Ministers, MLAs and District Commissioners of all districts, excluding those from the BTR region to review preparations for the week-long observance of 'Sewa Saptah', to be held across Assam from September 17 to 23. The initiative is aimed at promoting community service and people-centric governance through a series of impactful programmes across the state.

The week will commence on September 17 with a Mega Blood Donation Drive titled 'Sewa-hi-Samarpan'. A total of 75 blood donation camps would be organised in all districts, including in areas where permanent facilities are not available. The camps will be supported by mobile blood collection vehicles stationed at medical colleges and hospitals. The Chief Minister directed the Health Department and Assam State Blood Transfusion Council to ensure maximum participation from local youth, security personnel and others.

From September 18, Mega Health Camps will be launched across 11 Legislative Assembly Constituencies, focusing mainly on children and adolescents. These camps will offer free diagnostic services for over 50 health conditions, including heart, neurological, genetic, liver, kidney, eye, and ENT disorders. Patients diagnosed during the camps will be referred for further free treatment in hospitals with

specialized facilities. This health initiative will continue until October 31, eventually covering all Assembly Constituencies in the state. On September 19, the Environment and Forest Department, in collaboration with the Education Department, will conduct a large-scale tree plantation drive in schools. More than 15 lakh saplings will be planted and the seedlings will be distributed through 248 centers across the state. On September 21, the government will felicitate 1,000 young writers from Assam in recognition of their literary achievements. On September 22, around 7,500 Nikshay Mitras will distribute nutritious food baskets to tuberculosis patients in their respective areas. This initiative aims to support TB patients not only with nutrition but also through emotional and psychological encouragement.

On September 23, the Revenue Department will distribute land allotment certificates, special periodic pattas and offer of allotment, settlement or land transfer to a total of 24,688 government and non-government institutions. This includes 13,637 sites under various state departments, 83 sites belonging to state government undertaking agencies, 88 sites under central government and its undertaking agencies, 10,880 sites belonging to religious, educational and socio-cultural institutions.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma also reviewed preparations for the grand launch of Orunudoi 3.0 scheduled on September 25, for distribution of sanction letters to approximately 38 lakh women beneficiaries across the State. The central event will be held at the Veterinary College playground in Khanapara, while local distribution events will take place at around 25,000 locations across the state. The central programme will be broadcast live at all venues. The Chief Minister has also instructed officials to arrange for collection of forms for LPG subsidies from the beneficiaries during the event.

The Chief Minister directed all departments and District Commissioners to ensure the smooth and timely execution of all activities during Sewa Saptah, including the successful distribution of Orunodoi sanction letters. He called upon all Ministers, MLAs and public representatives to actively participate in the programmes to make the initiative a success.
