Delhi woman, two sons die by suicide at home; note indicates emotional distress

In a shocking incident that has left the Kalkaji neighbourhood stunned, three members of the same family were found dead inside their home on Thursday afternoon. The deaths are being treated as a triple suicide.

Police said the bodies of a 52-year-old lady named Anuradha Kapoor and her two sons, Ashish, 32, and Chaitanya, 27, were discovered hanging from a ceiling fan at their residence, House No. G-70B, around 2:47 pm. Officers said the tragedy came to light when a court bailiff, accompanied by local police, arrived to execute a court-ordered possession of the property.

Despite repeated knocks, no one responded from inside the house. The team then used a duplicate key to enter, where they found all three family members dead. A brief note recovered from the scene suggested the family had been suffering from severe depression, which may have led them to take the extreme step. Police are verifying the contents of the note but said it appeared to reflect emotional distress and prolonged mental strain. Investigators said there were no signs of forced entry or struggle inside the house, and no immediate indications of foul play.

However, a full forensic review is underway. The bodies have been shifted to the AIIMS mortuary for post-mortem examinations as part of the proceedings.

Police teams have begun speaking to neighbours and relatives to understand what may have pushed the family to this point. Officers said they are examining financial records, medical history, and legal documents linked to the property dispute to piece together the family’s recent circumstances.

Residents of the locality expressed disbelief at the sudden and tragic deaths, describing it as “deeply disturbing” and “heartbreaking”. Some said they were aware of the family’s ongoing tensions related to the property but never imagined the situation would end in such a tragedy.

Police said the investigation is still in its early stages, and a clearer picture will emerge after forensic reports, the analysis of the note, and statements from acquaintances. Officers added that they are looking into whether the stress of the property case, financial difficulties, or prolonged emotional distress played a role. The triple suicide has once again raised concerns about rising mental-health issues and the lack of timely support systems in urban households.
