The Agriculture Department of Medi-Caps University celebrated the success of its bottle gourd plantation project, with the saplings planted earlier now bearing fruits. A special event was organized to mark this milestone, attended by the Dean of the Agriculture Department, Dr. S.D. Upadhyay, Head of Department Dr. Sanjay Singh, and senior faculty members.
Dr. Upadhyay praised the initiative, highlighting the nutritional benefits of bottle gourd (Loki) and its potential to enhance the economic well-being of farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rahul Singh Raghuvanshi, Professor of Agricultural Sciences, explained the profitability of bottle gourd cultivation compared to other crops. He also discussed common diseases affecting the crop and their effective management techniques.
Dr. Raghuvanshi elaborated on the planting process, noting that bottle gourd plants are spaced 4 to 5 feet apart and require the support of poles or bamboo to grow upwards. He emphasized the crop's resistance to diseases and its ability to produce fruits within a short period.
The Faculty of Agriculture encouraged students to conduct research on bottle gourd cultivation to develop high-quality yields. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, with significant contributions from faculty members Somil Singh Chauhan and Vishal Saraiya.
This initiative aims to equip students with advanced sowing techniques, introduce improved crop varieties, and foster an interest in agricultural research.
