Marking the beginning of Seva Pakhwada (17 September — 2 October), the Delhi Government’s Public Works Department and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will dedicate projects worth Rs 3,000 crore on the occasion of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17, aiming at transforming the city’s water supply, sewage treatment, drainage and road infrastructure.

The DJB will roll out 13 major projects in the coming weeks. These included a comprehensive sewer network in Sonia Vihar, a state-of-the-art Master Balancing Reservoir (MBR) at Palla, which will play a critical role in strengthening Delhi’s water storage and distribution system, a new Underground Reservoir (UGR) at Bijwasan, designed to stabilize supply in South-West Delhi, upgradation of the Okhla Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), one of the largest in the city, to enhance treatment efficiency and protect the Yamuna river from pollution and several additional STPs and WTPs across Delhi, collectively raising the overall water and sewage management capacity of the capital

According to sources, these projects will significantly enhance Delhi’s ability to ensure clean drinking water, efficient sewage treatment and improved sanitation for millions of residents.

Additionally, the PWD will also unveil and launch several projects which included the Delhi Drainage Master Plan, providing a comprehensive roadmap to tackle waterlogging and flooding across the capital and ensuring long-term resilience against extreme weather, the Nand Nagri Flyover, a critical infrastructure project designed to decongest East Delhi, saving travel time, reducing pollution, and providing safer connectivity for thousands of commuters daily and foundation laying of a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Rajputana Rifles, a project that will not only ensure safe pedestrian movement near the regiment area but also serve as a mark of respect and gratitude to India’s brave soldiers and their families.

Speaking about the upcoming initiatives, Delhi PWD & Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma said, “On the birthday of our respected Prime Minister, these transformative projects will be our government’s gift to the people of Delhi. From water pipelines to flyovers, every initiative reflects our vision of a Capital that is healthier, safer and more efficient.”

“This Seva Pakhwada will mark a turning point for Delhi. With projects worth thousands of crores, we will be setting new benchmarks in public service and modern infrastructure. These efforts are not just about development-they are about service to society. By aligning these projects with Seva Pakhwada, the Delhi Government reaffirms its commitment to service through development. While DJB’s initiatives will improve water and sanitation facilities, PWD’s measures will reduce congestion, strengthen and enhance civic convenience,” he further added.

This coordinated push will not only uplift Delhi’s urban infrastructure but also symbolise the spirit of service, ensuring that growth directly benefits every citizen.
