Delhi Government is fully committed and sensitive towards farmers and rural residents in the wake of recent floods and will ensure adequate compensation for the damaged crops, Development Minister Kapil Mishra said on Wednesday.
He gave this assurance after carried out an on the ground inspection of the affected areas along with Social Development Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh.
During the inspection, Mishra said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is extremely concerned about the floods in the Yamuna River.
The sight of completely destroyed crops of vegetables, paddy and other produce brought home the pain of the farmers. The condition of the river’s flow and breached embankments was also assessed.
He further said the Delhi Government is committed to extending every possible assistance to farmers.

For the first time in Delhi’s history, two Cabinet Ministers of the Government have visited flood-affected areas together.
The Delhi Government understands the pain of farmers and will ensure adequate compensation for the damaged crops.
Ravindra Indraj Singh said witnessing the plight of farmers from Palla and Jhangola to Hiranki was deeply distressing.
The completely destroyed crops of paddy and vegetables were seen firsthand, and the condition of the river’s flow as well as breached embankments was taken into account.
Delhi Government stands firmly with farmers in their times of hardship, and all affected families will soon be provided relief, he said.
The two ministers, in an effort to assess the massive losses caused to farmers and the public by the floods in Delhi and to expedite the process of ensuring adequate compensation, conducted a survey from Palla Chowk to Hiranki.
They directly interacted with farmers and understood their suffering. During the visit, the two Ministers also carried out a comprehensive review of the administrative arrangements made by the Delhi Government.
During the inspection of flood-affected areas, the two Ministers were accompanied by the local District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, officials from the Agriculture Department, Flood Control Department and other concerned departments.
