Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday announced that 44,000 conventional streetlights in Delhi will be replaced with LEDs before Diwali and a Chhath ghat will be constructed on the Munak canal. Launching various development projects for her Shalimar Bagh constituency, the CM also announced the installation of new high-mast and pole lights in Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura at a cost of about Rs 97 lakh.
She informed that the Munak Canal, a crucial water lifeline for Delhi, will now be maintained by the Delhi Government under a new MoU. The canal will be barricaded, cleaned before Diwali and Chhath and proper ghats prepared for Chhath Puja. She also announced that road construction along the Munak Canal, costing Rs 5,000 crore, has begun with Central Government support. A DPR is under preparation and Rs 40 crore has been sanctioned for a new Chhath ghat from Inderlok to Outer Ring Road.
On this occasion, local Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal, Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood were present.
To strengthen basic infrastructure in Shalimar Bagh, the CM inaugurated new underground reservoirs, tubewells and booster pumps in the CA and BW Blocks at a cost of about Rs 65 lakh. Highlighting urban illumination, she announced the installation of new high mast and pole lights in Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura at a cost of about Rs 97 lakh. She also inspected the construction of a new road linking Ring Road near Guru Gobind Singh College, being built at a cost of Rs 12 crore.
In the education sector, a new PM Shri School will be established in Haiderpur on a 5,000 sq/yd plot, the first senior secondary school in the area with science and English-medium education. A new community hall for Haiderpur has also been approved. In Shalimar Bagh, a yoga centre’s foundation stone was laid and an underground wiring project worth Rs 8 crore has been completed, making the BH East Block free of overhead wires.
In the power sector, Delhi’s first Hotline Maintenance Van was flagged off, purchased by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited for Rs 1.5 crore. This modern vehicle enables power line repairs without outages. A project worth Rs 2.8 crore to convert a 33 KV overhead conductor into an underground cable was also launched. The CM announced that such vehicles will be deployed in every Assembly constituency.
The CM stressed that these projects reflect the Government’s top priorities: water, electricity, roads, education and sanitation and reaffirmed her commitment to a Viksit Delhi, Viksit Bharat.
