Former senior Congress leaders Umesh Chandra Swain and Kamala Das are likely to join the ruling BJD.
Both met BJD president Naveen Patnaik at the Naveen Nivas on Friday and expressed their desire to join the ruling party. Das, a former MlA from Bhograi in Baleswar district, had announced her resignation from the Congress on Thursday wishing to return to her former party, the BJD, from which she was removed after being dropped from the first Naveen Patnaik Ministry for what Patnaik had said ‘under the shadow of corruption’ charges. She had joined the Congress before the 2004 elections.
Umesh Swain, a two-time MlA from Balikuda, had also tendered his resignation from the Congress last month.
