Asus eyes 5% share in Indian smartphone market by year-end

New Delhi: Taiwanese mobile phone maker Asus aims to garner 5% share of the hyper-competitive Indian smartphone market as it ramps up product portfolio in the country.  The company has seen strong traction for its recent launches like Zenfone Max Pro and Zenfone 5Z and is confident that it can exit the year with 5% market share, Asus India head (mobile business) Dinesh Sharma said. With an eye on sub-Rs 10,000 segment handset segment, which account for over 50% of smartphone users, the company on Wednesday unveiled two 4G smartphones, Zenfone Lite and Max, for Rs 5,999 and Rs 7,499 a unit. These smartphones will be available on e-commerce portal Flipkart.

Welspun Group Chairman Balkrishan Goenka is new Assocham president

   New Delhi: Welspun Group chairman Balkrishan Goenka on Wednesday assumed charge as the president of industry chamber Assocham. Goenka succeeds Monnet Ispat & Energy chairman and MD Sandeep Jajodia in the role.  In a statement issued by the chamber, Goenka shared that Assocham has formulated a new vision called ‘4-SIGHT’ based on the four pillars of entrepreneurship, digitisation, women empowerment and sustainability.

ABB bags Rs 115 cr order from Indian Railways

New Delhi: Swiss power major ABB on Wednesday said it had won an order worth Rs 115 crore from Indian Railways to supply traction transformers. The contract has been awarded by Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi, ABB said in a statement. These transformers are customised for the WAP-7 type electric locomotive. The 6,000 horsepower capacity locomotive is capable of hauling 24 coaches at speed of up to 140 km per hour. The project is part of the ‘Mission Electrification’ initiative of the Indian Railways, which aims to convert an additional 24,000 km of railway network from fuel oil to electrification.

Havells India Q2 net profit up 4 pc

 New Delhi: Consumer electrical goods maker Havells India on Wednesday reported 4.44% rise in standalone net profit to Rs 178.62 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2018. The company had posted a net profit of %171.02 crore for the same period a year ago, Havells India said in a filing to BSE. Standalone revenue from operations stood at Rs 2,190.99 crore as against Rs 1,777.36 crore in September quarter 2017.
