East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Friday signed an agreement with AG Dauters, a Delhi based company involved in waste processing, with an aim to generate 610 Megawatt electricity in two phases by using decomposed waste available at Ghazipur landfill site. The plant would be based on lT Plasma Gasification Technology and is expected to produce electricity by March 2019, a corporation official said.
In a first phase 50 MW of electricity would be generated by processing 200 ton waste. After a while, the capacity would be increased to 560 megawatt electricity generation by using 1500 ton waste,” said Ajay Gairotra, Managing Director of AG Dauters.
EDMC Commissioner Dr Ranbir Singh said that this plant would be starting as a pilot. “After successful running of the project till 1 year, the civic body may extend the agreement for 21 years. Also, EDMC would be replicating this model at other sites as well. All environment-related norms would be adhered during this initiative,” he added.
A senior EDMC official said that as per the agreement, the corporation will provide three acres of land to the company for setting up the plant. “The plant would use 200 MT waste from landfill site on daily basis to produce This would be India’s first plant for creating energy with zero carbon emission and zero residue,” he said.
He further informed that 4.75 lakh litres of water and two lakh litres of zero-carbon fuel will also be generated besides electricity.
