Suspected terrorists belonging to anti-talk faction of the ULFA triggered a blast at Panbazar area in Assam’s capital town Guwahati on Saturday injuring four persons including a woman.
Police said that an explosion took place near the busy MG Road in Guwahati around 12 noon today. “Four persons including a woman was injured but their conditions are alright,” said the police.
Senior police officials who rushed to the spot immediately tried to downplay the incident and termed it a low intensity blast. However, the explosion had devastated a wall near Brahmaputra river and impacted on a bus, which was standing nearby.
Meanwhile, anti talk faction of the ULFA led by its commander in chief Paresh Baruah claimed responsibility for the blast.
“We are sorry that some innocent people were injured. However, this explosion was directed against those opposing NRC update and against those organisations supporting settling of Hindu Bangladeshi in Assam. This explosion is to warn the anti-Assam forces,” Baruah told some local television channels here over phone after the blast.
