With the polling process for the five States of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram concluded on Friday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi raised Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) controversy, taking a jibe at “Modi’s India”.

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi alerted the Congress leaders to be vigilant over the stealing of EVMs, citing an example of Madhya Pradesh where he claims that some stole the EVM and were later found drinking. “In MP, EVM’s behaved strangely after polling: Some stole a bus and vanished for 2 days! Others slipped away & were found drinking in a hotel. In Modi’s India, the EVMs have mysterious powers,” he said, in an apparent reference to media reports that Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs reached a collection centre in Madhya Pradesh 48 hours after voting ended on November 28.

The Congress on Tuesday had demanded a probe alleging that the BJP was “in collusion with the local administration” in attempting to tamper with EVMs during the November 28 Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls. The EC in its enquiry found no discrepancy in the EVMs and it had removed Returning Officer Vikas Singh. Besides, one Naib Tehsildar and one Assistant Returning Officer Rajesh Mehra who were assigned the task to bring reserved EVMs and deposit the same, suspended.

Rahul on Thursday had urged party workers in two States to put all their efforts at their respective In another incident, two polling officers were “found drunk” along with EVMs inside a hotel owned by a BJP functionary.

This is not the first time that Rahul has lashed out at Prime Minister Modi, while campaigning in Rajasthan the Congress president accused Modi of forgetting the farmers of the country, and proclaimed that Modi should not say “Bharat Mata ki Jai”. Rahul said, “PM Modi says ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ before every speech. He should instead say ‘Anil Ambani ki jai, Mehul Choksi ki jai, Nirav Modi ki Jai and Lalit Modi ki jai’. If you talk of Bharat Mata then how can you forget our farmers?”
