Delhi shivers in dead of winter ahead of its prime

The national Capital recorded minimum temperature at 3.6 degrees which was the lowest of this winter, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

“The minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season’s average. It is the lowest temperature recorded so far this year,” it said. Delhi has been reeling under a cold wave for the past few days. On December 23, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.7 degrees Celsius. It is expected to dip to 3.0 degrees Celsius after December, although the skies were clear throughout the day and the maximum temperature hovered around 20 degrees Celsius.

The Met department said humidity level recorded at 8.30 am was 97 per cent. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature had settled at 5.0 degrees Celsius.

Skymet, a private weather forecast agency, in north India, said dry and cold winds from north-west are blowing over the entire north-west India.

“There can be dry weather conditions to continue with further fall in day and night temperatures. Cold wave conditions will cover some more parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, north Rajasthan,” mentioned weather forecast agency.

The weather forecast agency said drop in temperature may lead to formation of ground frost in many parts of north-west plains. “The moisture will decrease reduction in intensity of fog, but the pollution levels will continue to remain in very poor to severe category in Delhi. Winter in Delhi may worsen as temperatures are all set to fall further,” said a weather expert.

Meanwhile on Christmas, a total of 316 trains were affected due to bad weather conditions, he said. The trains starting from Delhi, including the Lucknow-New Delhi Gomti Express, Lucknow Junction-Meerut city express and Howrah-Anand Vihar express, were cancelled on Wednesday, sources said.

Due to foggy weather conditions in north India, 11 trains were cancelled, two trains were partially cancelled and frequency of six trains reduced said an official of the Northern Railway.
