210 MW unit repaired, another unit still dysfunctional at BTPS

The 210 MW of unit no 3 of Bokaro Thermal Power Station (BTPS) B, which had developed technical snag causing a power crisis in eastern zone, was test synchronised with eastern power grid late in the night on Friday, making generation of electricity from the unit no 3 and its supply to the grid, a top BTPS official said on Saturday. But the 500 MW unit of BTPC A plant is still shut for nearly one and half months.

According to the DVC sources presently the unit no 3 of is supplying 150 MW to the eastern grid, said CE & project head Kamlesh Kumar.

The 500 MW unit of the plant is shut for last 45 days. The works in several parts of the rotator was going on but the fault couldn't be rectified since October 23.At the time of closing the unit was running on 450 MW, sources said.

According to the information DVC and BHEL engineers were involved in the work but the fault could not be rectified at 500 MW unit. Sources said that the unit of 500 MW would be lit up very soon.

BTPS, a unit of DVC had added another 500 MW to its existing capacity last year.

The newly installed facility has completed a successful trial run of 72 hours and is after getting clearance  from DVC, unit was already been put into a commercial power generation last year, sources said.

BTPS project head Kamlesh Kumar said, "All efforts are being on and hope unit of 500 MW would be lit up on December 31while unit no 3 of BTPS-B was synchronised on Friday evening,” added Kumar.
