Atal Smriti Market all set to make debut

Thursday, 15 November 2018 | PNS | Ranchi

The first and the biggest State-of-the-Art Vendors Market being furnished with all basic amenities will make its debut on November 16. One of the ambitious projects of the State’s biggest Urban Local Body (ULB) and the Department of Urban Development, Housing and Planning will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Raghubar Das in the presence of Minister, Department of Urban Development, Housing and Planning CP Singh, Mayor Asha Lakra including other dignitaries.

The CM laid the foundation stone for a vendors’ market complex at Jaipal Singh Stadium in July, 2016. The project completed in two years tenure. All preliminary tasks which include allotment of shops to the selected street vendors (470 street vendors), giving finishing touch to the multi-storey building have been accomplished by the authorities. Conceived and planned after much brainstorming is the first of its kind attempt of the State government to provide a permanent space to the street vendors who often pose trouble in smooth vehicular movement at a few busiest city squares.

Designed keeping in mind the pre-requisites of the street vendors, the marketing complex has 254 kiosks at the ground floor measuring 60 sq. feet and 75 sq. feet. Similarly, to accommodate more and more numbers of hawkers at a particular place, as many as 218 kiosks have been constructed on the first floor. “The purpose of designing Kiosks is to provide respite to the sellers as they will have to just bolt their selling materials inside it and do not have to carry their items on a daily basis,” said the Manager of Atal Smriti Vendors Market.

Adorned with the latest designs and using new-age technology, the Vendors Market has four staircases including two lifts. The second floor has space for 108 roller shutter shops. According to the blueprint of the plan, the roller shutter shops measures 70 sq. feet and 120 sq. feet.

The complex has a dedicated space for 23 offices and other commercial enterprises on the third floor covering a carpet area of 900 sq. feet, 1200 sq. feet and 1800 sq. feet with attached bathrooms. The entire building has 85 restrooms of which three lavatories have been developed for specially-abled persons.

The fourth floor has a huge multi-purpose hall including an open air cafeteria facing roadside. The Vendors Market has a double-basement parking area with a capacity to accommodate nearly 195 four wheelers including 200 two-wheelers.
