Bokaro residents offer condolences to Punjab train accident victims

Many social activists, members of NGOs and political parties paid tribute to the victims of the Amritsar train accident and expressed condolences at different places in Bokaro on Sunday. A two-minute silence was also observed.

Over sixty-one people were dead while several injured after two speeding trains in opposite directions mowed down people standing on the tracks near a railway crossing watching a Ravan effigy being burnt at a Dussehra celebration at Amritsar on Friday evening.

Speaking at a condolence meeting at Sector 3, Dr Praksh Sing of JVM (P) said the accident is very tragic and heart-wrenching. “We are paying an emotional tribute to those who died in Amritsar train mishap,” he added.

While Congress party workers, members of NGOs including PACE, ORANGE and other social activists participated in a candlelight vigil to pay tribute to the victims of the Amritsar train accident.

Congress workers led by Manjur Ansari hold a candlelight march from Gandhi Chowk at Sector 4 in Bokaro Steel City. Beside others, Lalmohan Layak, Asha Devi, Rita Devi, Dinanath Pandey, Ashok Soren, Mukhtar Ansari, Ramlal Soren, Raman Karn, Pradeep Rai, Pankaj Singh, Kunal Rawani, Raja Yadav, Abhishek, Ankit Bharti, Punam, Mamta, Navin were present there.
