Cash, liquor, freebies worth Rs 13.03 cr seized: CEO

Flying squads and various task forces specially constituted to check the allurement by political parties during the poll process have seized cash and goods including precious metals and liquor worth Rs 13.03 crore till November 18.

Providing details on seizures made, State Chief Electoral Officer Subrat Sahoo informed in a press conference here that cash worth Rs 4.62 crore, liquor worth Rs 1.76 crore and freebies worth Rs 6.33 crore were seized by the squads of police, Excise and Income Tax Department till Sunday.

The cash amounting to Rs 3.92 crore was seized by police teams whereas the Income Tax Department personnel seized  Rs 70 lakhs, he informed. Thus a total progressive seizure by police and Income Tax Department was worth Rs 4.62 crores, he said.

Regarding liquor seizure, the CEO informed that flying squads, static surveillance teams and police seized a total consignment of 93821.14 liters of liquor worth Rs 75.35 lakhs whereas the State Prohibition and Excise Department seized a total of 38442.35 liters of liquor worth Rs 1.01 crore. Thus a combined seizure of 132263.49 liters of liquor worth 1.76 crore was done by them, the official said.

The special squads also seized freebies in form of laptops, vehicles, pressure cooker and Sarees worth Rs 6.33 crore while the precious metals including gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 29 lakhs were seized, he informed.

Drugs and narcotics weighing a total of 22.16 kgs and estimated price of the consignment at Rs 1.76 lakhs was also seized, Sahoo said.
