Chandigarh Literature Festival from today

The three-day Chandigarh Literature Festival (CLF) will be held from Thursday at Post graduate government college for girls (PGGCG), Sec 11 here with several writers expected to turn up for the festival to participate in book launches and discussions.

Mitul Dikshit, Chairman, Adab Foundation and  Madhav Kaushik, Chairman , Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi and Vice Chairman, Adab Foundation announced a schedule for the 7th Edition of Chandigarh Literature Festival on Wednesday.

A panel discussion related to ‘Me Too’ controversy will be held on the opening day.  ‘MeToo, Media and the Making of Art’ will be moderated by Akshaya Kumar with and will see participation of Nilanjana Roy, Annie Zaidi and Gautam Kishanchandani.

 This will be followed by a tribute to the ‘City Beautiful’- Chandigarh.

The book  ‘The Big Small Town: How Life Looks From Chandigarh’ will be discussed by critic Sakoon Singh who will be in conversation with author Aarish Chhabra.

The inaugural session will come to an end with a performance - ‘Blank Page’ - An Interpretation of contemporary Indian poetry through theatre, music and movement, which will be conducted by members of Tamaasha Theatre Group, Mumbai.

"We always try to provide ingredients which makes CLF stand out in a  league of its own," said Dikshit.

On day 2, CLF will celebrate literary works  by  some of India’s best Authors. Book "Padmawat’s" author Purushottam Agrawal will be engaged in conversation by critic Krishna Kumar.

Then ‘The Other’ author Paro Anand will be seen in a session with critic Swati Daftuar.

This will be followed by a session on the book ‘Diwali in Muzaffarnagar’ in which critic Omar Ahmad will be in conversation with the author Tanuj Solanki.

‘Jal Thal Mal’ author Sopan Joshi will then be in conversation with critic  Saurabh Dwivedi. Critic Vibhuti Narain Rai will then engage author of ‘Ek Thi Maina Ek Tha Kumhar’ Hari Bhatnagar in a talk about his book. This session will be followed by ‘The Wildings’ author Nilanjana Roy in conversation with critic Rihan Najib in conversation. The day will end with a performance ‘ Urdu hai jiska naam’ by Mumbai’s Tamaasha Group.

On the last day of the festival on November 3, author of ‘Daughters of the Sun’ Ira Mukhoty will be engaged in a talk by critic Rumina Sethi.  Critic Jonathan Gil Harris will talk to Gayathri Prabhu author of ‘If I had to tell it again’.

A movie screening of film ‘Stree’ will also be held, followed by a session of critic Nonika singh with director of the film Amar Kaushik.

Book ‘The Epic City- The World On The Streets Of Calcutta’ will be discussed by critic Kunal Ray with the author Kushanava Choudhury.   

"The books chosen are path breaking in their own way. We have selected some of the best critics of the country and who in turn have nominated books. CLF 2018 will also see a unique poetry event. A special poetry translators’ performance will see poetry from various languages from all over the world, rendered into English and other Indian languages," Madhav Kaushik added.
