The Congress has started exercise to collect funds for the party’s mouthpiece Navjivan, a Hindi weekly magazine published from New Delhi.
Sources in the Congress confirmed that on the directions of All-India Congress Committee, party’s chief in Uttar Pradesh, Raj Babbar, handed over subscription forms to all office-bearers of the state, district and city units and asked them to get them filled and collect funds.
As per Babbar’s directive, all UPCC vice-presidents, general secretaries and secretaries would get 100 forms each and collect subscription fee of Rs 2,000 (for 130-week period) while district and city unit chiefs and in-charges would get 50 subscription forms each to collect the fees.
With 129 district and city chiefs, and two in-charges and about 400 officer-bearers in the UPCC, the party hopes to collect over Rs 7 crore from UP alone.
The sources said that the drive would be carried out along with the party’s 90-day programme to get youths enrolled in voters’ list and convince them to join the party’s ‘Shakti App’.
The drive is scheduled to start on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s death anniversary on October 31.
When contacted on Saturday, a UPCC spokesman refused to speak on the issue saying he was unaware of it.
