Cops use Chhath festival to promote social cause

Thursday, 15 November 2018 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Police used this chhath festival to further bridge the gulf between the public and the police. Apart from doing the mandatory duty of maintenance of public tranquility and regulating traffic police did something novel on the last leg of the 4th day of the most auspicious festival of chhath.

According to DSP Garhwa Om Prakash Tiwari cops offered tea and coffee at Danro river ghat this early morning. Tiwary said, “ Our cops did a good job. With the help from local hands we prepared tea and coffee and gave it to everyone who visited our makeshift camp called police Sahaita Kendra.”

More than 30 litres of milk were used along with sugar, tea leaf and coffee. Disposal cups were used, he reminded. People of all ages relished our tea and coffee he said.Sources said it was a never heard thing in place like Garhwa where cops’ friendliness can be so evident as it was on this day of chhath.

Back here in Palamu cops at Mahudand police outpost made two steps forward in building social cohesion.

According to SP Palamu Indrajeet Mahatha people at Mahudand used to perform chhath rites before any well or tube well as there is no water body there.

Our in charge of Mahudand police outpost there Upender Paswan took help from the locals and expanded and broadened a minor stream there to become a water body and here people who till last year used to perform chhath rites near a well or a tube well came here and performed the rites shoulder to shoulder presenting a picture of social cohesion.

This message of social cohesion emanating from water body on the day of chhath is surer to bring in more amity and understanding among the people here of this place in times to come said Mahatha quite sanguinely.

Latehar police shared seats with health officials in various first aid clinic set up at various ghats in latehar district , SP Prashant Anand.
