After Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directed the officials of Public Works Department (PWD) to repair its potholed arterial roads, the Minister of PWD Sateyendra Jain has asked the department to repair all shortcomings in the various stretches by end of this month. Jain has also directed to submit a certificate after conducting necessary field inspections.
The decision was taken in a recent meeting held by the PWD Minister and Puneet Kumar Vats, Engineer-in-Chief of PWD, for proper repair of roads under the department.
Executive Engineers (civil & electrical) should ensure all shortcomings in the various stretches should be attended by the 30 November 2018 and shall submit the certificate after conducting the necessary field inspections.
"Further, the concerned officers such as the Assistant engineers, executive engineers and the chief engineers have been directed to submit the report by 1st, 9th and 12th December. After which the principal chief engineer will compile the report and submit the same to E-in-C office by 13th December so that the compiled report can be submitted to the officer of Aditional Chief Secreatry (PWD) by 14th," read the minutes of the meeting, a copy of which is with The Pioneer.
"Uneven surface and potholes at various locations, un-functional street lights and darks spots, un-effective utilization of maintenance vans by the concerned authorities such as Civil, electrical and horticulture, improper maintenance of flyover, Foot over Bridges, subways, foots paths, kerbstones, lifts, wild growth of weeds and others are some general shortcomings identified on various Delhi roads", it said.
"The Minister further directed the department that all the shortcomings should be met out soon. He also ensured that painting should be done after all the repairing works done and a FoB should construted at Multan Nagar," said an official.
Earlier, on Tuesday Kejriwal had directed officials of the PWD to ensure that all road repair work is completed by the December 15 deadline. The Chief Minister warned that the PWD engineers will be held "personally responsible" if roads are found to be in a bad condition after the deadline.
"Several teams of citizens will be formed to inspect these roads on December 16. Each team will be headed by the members of the legislative assembly (MLAs) which will report any potholes and State of disrepair after the repairing of road work done" he had said.
According to the official data, the PWD owns around 1,260-km roads in the national capital and maintenance of these roads is the responsibility of the PWD, some roads belong to the three municipal corporations while national highways passing through the national capital are owned by the Centre.
