The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation initiated a move to terminate the contract of city’s Indira Priyadarshini Park after noticing grosss irregularities by the contracting companies run by James Sangma son of former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma and a local leader Sikandar Yadav.
The municipal corporation initiated an investigation in to the ambit of the contract after the local municipal councilor Rajendra Tyagi raised the issue in September last in which he alleged that withn connivance of the local officers , the two politician’s kins were minting huge money after taking contract on throw away price.
The municipal commissioner CP Singh constituted a committee and asked it to submit report after a physical audit of the park is done and the irregularities in running Indira Priyadarshini Park being run by Prachar Advertising and PR Company. The committee found serious violation of the contact and recommended the punitive action against Sangama and Yadav.
In its report to the municipal commissioner CP Singh, the committee headed by chief engineer Moiuddin states, “The two companies violated all the 25 terms issued at the time of awarding contract for 27 years in 2006. During this period as the two companies promised to develop the park with 10,000 trees and keeping lake with fresh water and maintaining it as tourist attraction centre with boats violated the conditions. Rather the companies minted money by charging entry fee Rs. 10 per person”.
The committee further stated that the two companies took no permission from Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) for construction beyond the specified limits. “No permission was sought to run commercial activities in the park. No zoo was maintained by the companies while they promised to develop a zoo for children” Moinuddin state in his report.
The committee also found all the irregularities committed by the contracting companies during the tenure of their contract while they utilized 40 percent of the park in to commercial activities by running wedding halls. The committee submitted its report to the municipal commissioner CP Singh on September 29 of this year.
“Acting on the recommendation the municipal commissioner issued notice to the company why their contract not be dismissed following the irregularities by them. The commissioner has specified 10 days to reply else the contract will be terminated presuming that the companies have no ground to submit the clarification hence the process of termination will be initiated added the commissioner in the letter”, Tyagi said.
