Kapal Mochan expected to witness 7l pilgrims

Chandigarh: The ongoing five days Kapal Mochan-Adi-Badri Mela in Bilaspur at district Yamunanagar which has started on November 19, is expected to witness presence of around 7 lakh pilgrims this year. The district administration, police administration and other department have made special arrangements for the safety and convenience of these visitors, said an official spokesman. He said that the whole fair is divided into four sectors and boats have been arranged for all the pious Sarovars.  An exhibition having 40 stalls, depicting four years of developmental activities of the State Government has also been set up in the fair, he said.

Punjab farmers complete 77 % sowing of wheat

Chandigarh: The sowing of wheat has been completed in an area of 26.20 lakh hectares in Punjab, which was 77% of the total area to be sown under wheat, said Director Agriculture, Jasbir Singh Bains. He pointed out that area sown under wheat is 3% more than previous year. Last year wheat was sown in 25.12 lac hectares till date achieving 74 % sowing. He said 97% sowing had been completed in Patiala district while 98% in Sangrur and Fatehgarh Sahib districts.  The Director advised the farmers not to use more than one bag of DAP per acre of wheat crop.

Tanwar for strengthening booth committees

Chandigarh:  Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar on Tuesday stressed the need to strengthen the booth committees and appoint 10 booth sahayogis at each booth under the leadership of booth samrat in the state. Addressing a sammelan of OBC at Kaman Sarain in Gurugram, he exhorted that all sections including OBC should be given proper representation in booth committees.

Union Min to be chief guest at Memorial lecture

Chandigarh: Union Minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh will be the chief guest of the ‘Sir Chhotu Ram’s Memorial Lecture’ to be organised at JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad on November 21. The lecture is being organised by the University in association with Rashtriya Chetna Shakti Foundation Faridabad on the topic ‘Farmers Problem and their solutions’. The eminent historian and scholar Dr KC Yadav will be the keynote speaker of the program and present his view on the topic in context to Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram. The program will be presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof Dinesh Kumar.

Haryana EC issues guidelines on Mayor poll

Chandigarh: As per the provision made in Section 8B of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, the Haryana State Election Commission has prescribed Rs 20 lakh as limit of expenditure for the candidates contesting the election of Mayor of Municipal Corporation, State Election Commissioner, Dalip Singh said.  Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994 has been amended by the Government according to which Mayor in the state will be chosen through the direct election by the electors of all wards of the concerned Municipal Corporation.

State-of-the-art cryoablation machine used in PGIMER

Chandigarh: In the second session on Cryoablation, the Department of Radiodiagnosis at PGIMER has recently treated two patients with liver cancer and one patient with renal cancer using the state-of-the-art cryoablation machine. Due to comorbid conditions, these patients could not be treated with surgery and could not be given general anaesthesia. The procedures were performed under local anaesthesia with minimal sedation.   'The cryoablation machine at PGIMER is the first of its kind installed anywhere in the country', said Prof  MS Sandhu, Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis, PGIMER. He said Cryoablation can help in the treatment of a few selective patients with Cancer of the Liver, Pancreas, Kidneys and Prostrate amongst others.
