Review meet held for proposed President’s visit

Shimla: A meeting was held here under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shrikant Baldi  to make necessary arrangements for the proposed visit of the President Ram Nath Kovind to Kangra and Shimla on October 29 and 30. He said that Ram Nath Kovind would confer degrees to the students of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC) Tanda at Kangra in first convocation function on  October 29 and the students of Himachal Pradesh University Shimla on October 30 in 24th convocation function.  Baldi directed the officers of district administration, Municipal Corporation and all concerned departments to make all necessary arrangements. 

Governor releases book Nek Chand— courageous, energetic artist

Chandigarh: Rock Garden in Chandigarh - A critical evaluation of the work of Nek Chand is original research thesis for which its author Dr SS Bhatti, Former Principal, Chandigarh College of Architecture, was conferred the degree of Master of Architecture (M. Arch.) in 1983 by The University of Queensland, Australia. The book was formally released by VP Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab-cum-Administrator, Union Territory at Punjab Raj Bhawan here. The book records and analyses the work of a great, courageous and enormously energetic artist, Nek Chand.

Haryana announces 2 per cent Dearness Relief

Chandigarh: Haryana Government announced two per cent increase in Dearness Relief (DR) for State Government pensioners and family pensioners on revised pension (7th Pay Commission) with effect from July 1, 2018, thus raising the DR on the pattern of Central Government employees from existing seven per cent to nine per cent. Haryana Finance Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu said that this enhancement would have an additional financial burden of about Rs 92.64 crore on the state exchequer for 8 months from July 2018 to February 2019 in the financial year 2018-19.

YMCA announces students’ polls schedule

Chandigarh: JC Bose (erstwhile YMCA) University of Science and Technology, YMCA Faridabad has announced the schedule for Students’ Elections to form the University Executive Students’ Council for the Academic Year 2018-19 and appointed Dean Student Welfare, Naresh Chauhan as University Election Officer to ensure smooth conduct of election.

Tript Bajwa inaugurates software

Chandigarh: Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Department has developed online software to bring more transparency & efficiency in making estimates of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Guarantee (MGNREGA) scheme. The Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa inaugurated this online software 'Secure' in the presence of senior officers of the department here.

CPLD-2018 to be organised

Chandigarh: The Department of Hepatology PGIMER in collaboration with Department of Gastroenterology, AIIMS, New Delhi will jointly organize 18th Current Perspective in Liver Diseases (CPLD–2018) at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research on October 13-14 covering various aspects of liver diseases. 

3,454 given employment

SAS Nagar: Ghar-Ghar Rozgar scheme initiated by Punjab Govt. to provide employment opportunities to unemployed youth in the state, has given employment opportunities to 3454 persons in district SAS Nagar, said Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra. Employment opportunities under Ghar Ghar Rojgaar Scheme has been provided to unemployed youth by providing vocational training through Skill Development, Common Service centre and through Mahatma Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna. Low interest loans have been provided to 32 applicants in district under Prime Minister Employment Generation Program. Similarly under Punjab Skill development Mission Program, skill development training has been provided to 239 persons, she said.

Union Bank officials donate blood

Chandigarh: Union Bank of India on its centenary year celebrations organised Blood Donation camp in association with PGI, Chandigarh on Wednesday at Manimajra here. Regional Head SC Teli,  Dy Regional Head Ramanand Ram, AGMs Amit Bhatia, Ajay Bansal and Ajay Kumar,  CM Navin Nischal, Branch Manager Manimajra Kamal Saini, Branch mangers of Chandigarh and Panchkula branches and staff members donated blood.
