BBMB opens automation of Barnala substation

Chandigarh: Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) joined the elite club of Power Utilities of India who have converted their conventional substations into remote operated ones by installing state-of-the-art Substation Automation System in 220kV Barnala Substation, said BBMB chairman DK Sharma on Monday while inaugurating the Remote Operation of 220kV Barnala Substation. The inauguration ceremony was held in the premises of 220kV substation of BBMB at Sangrur from where Barnala substation shall be remotely operated. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs 1.7 crores.

GMCH-32 celebrates Annual Research Day

Chandigarh: Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector-32, Chandigarh, on Monday celebrated its first Annual Research Day, on the birthday of former President and researcher of par excellence late APJ Abdul Kalam. It was decided that the day will be celebrated each year as GMCH’s Annual Research Day. GMCH director principal Prof BS Chavan said that since January 2018, GMCH has taken many initiatives to promote research including setting up of Research Cell for supporting young faculty and postgraduate students, setting up of multi-disciplinary research unit (MDRU), improving visibility of GMCH journal and recognition of research contribution of faculty and students.

Dussehra holiday on Oct 19

Chandigarh: Haryana Government has notified that October 19, 2018, will be observed as public holiday on account of Dussehra instead of October 18, 2018, for all government employees posted in government offices, Boards, Corporations and educational institutions under the state government. A notification to this effect has been issued by Chief Secretary office on Monday.

10.89 LMT paddy procured in Punjab

Chandigarh: The Government agencies and private millers have procured 10.89 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in Punjab till October 14. Spokesperson said that out of total procurement of 10,89,174 MT from various procurement centres, government agencies procured 10,59,192 MT while 29,982 MT has been procured by millers. PUNGRAIN had procured 3,38,007 tonnes, MARKFED procured 2,67,542 tonnes and PUNSUP procured 2,20,776 tonnes while Punjab State Warehousing Corporation and Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation procured 1,02,349 and 1,14,092 MT respectively. Central Government agency FCI has procured 16,426 MT.

Head constable caught while taking bribe

Chandigarh: Haryana State Vigilance Bureau has caught a head constable Rajesh, posted at Gurugram, red-handed while accepting illegal gratification of Rs 10,000 from a resident of Heli Mandi, Jhatoli, Tehsil Pataudi, in Gurugram district, in lieu of giving him a promissory note for not to transfer complainant’s relative from Bhondsi Jail to Hisar Jail.Spokesperson said that a case has been registered against the accused under Sections 7 and 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act at the Bureau’s Police Station in Gurugram.

Tata Starbucks launches in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Tata Starbucks on Monday announced its launch into the city of Chandigarh. Celebrating its sixth anniversary in the Indian market, an entry into Chandigarh marks Tata Starbucks first non-metro city entry and its second city launch this year. India continues to be one of Starbucks fastest growing markets and Chandigarh now becomes the eighth city for the company in India. The first Starbucks store in the city at Elante Mall will welcome its customers on October 19, Friday.
