Wednesday, 21 November 2018 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

In response to the growing demands from the students for availability of clean and hygienic food, the executive council of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has decided to explore the feasibility to establish food courts at suitable locations on the campus.

A senior university official said that with this initiative, students will have a wide range of choice of food.

"The Executive Council has decided to take an appropriate action against the canteens owners for not following the rules and failing to cater the requirements of the student community to provide clean, hygienic and affordable food," he said.

The official said that the council has also taken the decision to call for fresh tender for running canteens in the campus and those failed to follow the prescribed rules and clearing dues would not be permitted to participate in the tendering process.

The decision was taken in its 277th meeting held on Tuesday.

He further said that it has also been decided to temporarily close one of the reading rooms in the main library building to equip it with safety measures.
