Nat’l conference of women police begins today

Around 150 women police personnel from across the country are expected to participate in the Eighth National Conference of Women in Police (NCWP) starting at Judicial Academy in Ranchi on Monday.

The two-day conference being organized by Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) in collaboration with Jharkhand police would address the issues of women in uniform and create an enabling atmosphere for them to maximize their professional skills.

Addressing the media persons on Sunday IG BPR& D Sampat Meena said that among the issues to be taken up in the meet include special training needs of women police, role of women police in smart city and safe city, gender neutral work places, preventing sexual harassment in duty, skill enhancement, empowered working space, role of women in community oriented policing and training needs for women personnel.

The IG stated action taken report on the previous national meets would also be submitted on the first day of the meeting.

IG Priya Dubey who is organising secretary of the meet in Jharkhand informed that NCWP would prepare a report on recommendations of the conference adding regional conferences and consultative worskshops would be held for their implementation. IG (Operation) Ashis Batra and other police officers were also present media briefing.

It may be stated here that NCWP has been continuously working on strengthening and monitoring of mechanism to deal with sexual harassment in all the police organizations by suggesting active ways and means. Sincere efforts have been made for issues related to gender sensitization for all police ranks.

It has also taken steps for exclusive infrastructure development for women police like rest room, toilets and crèche and also for ensuring equal opportunities for women in career planning and other welfare measures.
