Glowing tributes were paid by the Congress leaders and members of the public to the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary on Wednesday.
The members of Akhil Bharatiya Nehru Brigade organised a programme to mark the day at historic Nehru ward situated on old Haridwar road.
At this place, Nehru was kept in prison by the British rulers. Speaking on the occasion former Minister Hira Singh Bisht exhorted the people to move forward on the path shown by Pandit Nehru. He said that Nehruji loved children very much which is the reason why this day is celebrated as Children’s Day.
Former MLA Rajkumar, Mayoral candidate Rajni Rawat, Brigadier K G Behl ( rtd), President of Nehru Brigade Sant Ram Sharma and many others offered floral tributes to the first Prime Minister of the country.
The Congress party workers and leaders also organised a programme at the state party office. After garlanding the picture of Nehru, senior Congress leaders remembered his life and values he stood for.
They said that Nehru laid the foundation stone of a progressive, secular and modern India for which every Indian is indebted to him. They said that the ‘ Panchsheel’ concept promulgated by Nehru is still relevant today as it gives a message of peace to the world.
Effusing praises on the first PM, the Congress leaders made a new experiment of socialism, democracy and planning in parliamentary democracy which infused a fresh air into democracy and helped in propagating it. Congressmen also remembered contribution of Nehru in laying a firm foundation of Industrialisation through the public sector units. They said that he presented a new model of development of India before the world and till date he is considered as 'father of mixed economy'. The congressmen on the occasion said that some forces are determined to belittle works of Nehru and are conspiring to erase his memories but their designs would not get any success.
The programme was attended by former Minister Matbar Singh Kandari, Former MLA Rajkumar, Chairman of the disciplinary committee of Congress Pramod Kumar Singh, Rajendra Shah, Mahanagar President Lal Chand Sharma and others.
