On morning walk, Inspector dies of heart attack

An EOW Inspector died during his routine morning walk near the Jiwaji University in Gwalior. A colleague who was with the Inspector initially rushed him to a private hospital and later on the JAH Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. Doctors at the hospital held a post mortem and told the police that the man had died of heart attack.

Shiv Shankar Pandey, aged 51 and a resident of Arrah in Bihar was posted as Inspector in the Economic Offences Wing in Gwalior.

He had joined the police force in 1994 as a Sub- Inspector and had served in various police stations in the state.

Inspector Pandey had gone to the Jiwaji University grounds along with his colleague, Inspector Ajay Sharma for his routine morning walk.

Around 6.45 in the morning he complained of severe chest pain and collapsed on the ground. Inspector Sharma, along with some other morning walkers rushed Inspector Pandey to the nearby Global Hospital where the doctors referred him to JAH.

According to doctors at the JAH, Pandey had already breathed his last. A postmortem was held by Dr Ajay Gupta.

On hearing about the death of Pandey, Raghuvansh Bhadouria, SP, EOW Gwalior and DSP Satish Chaturvedi along with other officers of the department rushed to the hospital and identified the body. Puppy Pandey, the deceased’s wife was informed and she too reached the hospital. According to sources in the EOW department the final rites of Inspector Pandey will be held today evening.

Dr Punit Rastogi, Head of the Department of Cardiology at the GRMC Hospital said that heart patients need to take special care while going out for their morning walk. He added that adequate sleep is essential for heart patients and those with high blood pressure.

 He also said that those who donot get enough sleep are at higher risk for cardiovascular diseases and coronary heart diseases. Dr Rastogi cautioned people not to go for morning walk or do any exercise if they fail to get enough sleep at night.
