The corporate sector will soon set up private agriculture mandis, silos, cold storages and warehousing facilities in the state as the amended Uttar Pradesh Krishi Utpadan Mandi (amendment) Act 2018 will soon be enforced. The act will also enable the corporate sector to set up private markets in the state for procuring the agriculture produce directly from farmers without paying mandi fee. The move is likely to benefit farmers enabling them to enhance their income from agriculture activities. The amendment act was passed by the state Assembly in April this year.
Government spokesman and Health Minister Siddarth Nath Singh said on Tuesday that the Centre had circulated a model Mandi Act to all states and on its suggestions the relevant state Act had already been passed by the state Legislature. “The rules of the Act are being framed and the amended Act is likely to be enforced in a month’s time,” the minister said, adding “with the enforcement of the Act private companies could set up the mandi having the licence to procure the agriculture commodities directly from farmers.
