The horticulture department of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has introduced mechanical appliances in all its parks, nurseries and green waste management centres to make its area free from green waste.
The Standing Committee Chairperson Shikha Rai inaugurated the new shredder-chipper, leaf picker machines and other mechanised equipments at a nursery situated in GK Part-1.
Rai said that the new machines like shredder chipper, leaf picker, hedge trimmer, brush cutter and pole pruner will make the work of maintenance including pruning and beautification in parks quick and smooth. The newly procured machines have been distributed to all the four zones for further deployment in parks and nurseries, she said.
Rai further stated that around 40 ton green waste is being generated per day in SDMC area. With deployment of new machines, the management of the maximum quantity of green waste would be possible in an efficient manner, Rai said.
The Director Horticulture Dr Alok Singh (SDMC) said the new machines can shred the larger quantity of dry leaves and other green waste and the chipped and shredded material is immediately fit to be used as manure in parks. The dry leaves collected from the gardens and road sides with the help of new leaf picker machines are being brought to nurseries and green waste management centers for shredding, Dr Alok said.
