SP defers OBC convention

Tuesday, 25 September 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

Samajwadi Party has deferred holding of Other Backward Classes convention in each Assembly constituency that was scheduled to begin from Tuesday.

The convention has been postponed in view of party’s preparations for the 2019 Lok Sabha poll in Uttar Pradesh. The party had earlier announced to hold meetings of polling booth-level committees between October 3 and 9.

The OBC convention was proposed to counter the series of meetings of different castes in the OBC list, organised by the BJP in the state in the last three weeks.

SP state chief Naresh Uttam said that a fresh schedule for OBC convention would be announced after Diwali.

Uttam had earlier directed district units to set up booth committees, if they had not been set up, by September 25.

Booth committees have been set up in 225 of the 403 Assembly constituencies in UP.
