After the killing of an MLA and a former MLA by Maoists in nieghbouring Andhra Pradesh, the Gajapati police have beefed up security for the two MLAs of the district.
Paralakhemundi MLA K Suriya Rao and Mohana MLA Basanti Mallick have been provided with two armed bodyguards. In case of their visit to Maoist-infested areas, more security personnel would be provided, informed Gajapati SP Amulya Kumar Das.
Besides, police have sounded a high alert in the entire district. Police have intensified combing operations and patrolling in the Maoist-infested Mohana, Nuagad and R Udaygiri blocks. Besides, the police are keeping a vigilant eye on suspicious elements and frisking all vehicles entering the district, police sources said. The cops have intensified search operations particularly in Paniganda, KAtama, Raipanka and Chandragiri where Maoist movement is high.
It might be mentioned here that the police are on extreme alert in the district, after Vishakhapatnam district Araku MLA K Sarbeswar Rao and former MLA Siberi Soma were gunned down by a group of Red rebels during a gram sabha, a couple of days ago.
