UNICEF, NGO hold photography workshop

Around 25 adolesents participated in the photography workshop for adolescents groups organised by NGO Vasudha Samaj Sanasthan with support of UNICEF, Madhya Pradesh. 

Many participants have marked their recognition however, Shivani is class tenth student of Government school in the Meghnagar block of Jhabua district.

She had held DSLR camera for the first time, while her friend Anjali who is from class ninth who had earlier  used mobile for taking pictures, but was using DSLR for the first time.

Both of them are part of photography workshop for adolescents in which 25 of them are participating, and they have been part of adolescent groups in the district facilitated by NGO Vasudha Samaj Sanasthan with support of UNICEF, Madhya Pradesh.

The workshop was organised for 3 days from October 13 to 16, 2018 at Meghnagar where they were exposed to various facets of photography, how to use camera, what is focus, zoom, ISO, as part of effort to strengthen voices of adolescents in the districts and giving them the voices of adolescents a platform.

They were exposed to DSLR and using mobile for photography.

The aim was to encourage them to use camera to share their view on efforts and issues which they see it in the ground shares Gayatri Parihar of Vasudha.

Satish Dave who works with children and adolescents and young photographer Parth were two trainers, and on format which was worked by Anil Gulati, UNICEF Communication Specialist.

The adolescents not only learned about photography and camera in class, but were in field and in villages clicking on issues which they feel are important be it water, sanitation, Anganwadi, mother and child, nutrition being served to children, immunization, hygiene, and challenges of garbage etc. and many times often get missed in media also.

Michael Juma, Chief, UNICEF, Madhya Pradesh shares that Continuous empowerment of adolescents on techno-savvy skills like photography has the potential to improve their skills –sets and employability to enable them to realize their dreams.  Inspiringly images taken by the adolescents which are grounded on issues impacting their lives such as child marriage, drop-out of school and adolescent anemia should enviably be taken into  policy  consideration  by decision makers and partners.

Adolescents who participated in the workshop clicked the images of global handwashing day which was marked on October 15 in schools of the district.
