Water re-cycling plant to come up at Tatanagar railway station

Tatanagar railway station would soon get a new water re-cycling plant of 1 lakh gallon capacity at the washing line (also known as coaching depot) of Tatanagar railway station.

Tatanagar station director HK Balmuchu said that around 1 lakh gallon of water is used daily for cleaning of trains that originate from Tatanagar railway station. The tender for the water re-cycling plant has been floated. On selection of the best bidder work for the project is expected to kick off next month.

Balmuchu adding that the water which used to get wasted for cleaning of trains would be re-cycled once re-cycling plant is constructed.

Commercial department officials said that over a dozen mail and express trains originate from Tatanagar railway station for various destinations. The primary maintenance which involves cleaning of train coaches is carried out at the washing line.

A rough estimate suggests that Tatanagar railway station consumes around 12 lakh gallons of water per day. Apart from cleanliness of train coaches, water is also supplied to the railway colony for domestic use.

Sources said that the washing line is also getting renovated so that it can accommodate trains with 25 to 26 coaches. The renovation work of the washing line is expected to get completed by the end of October.

Located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route Tatanagar is an important station. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
