Under Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin (SBM–G) 8,99,15,014 of individual Household Latrines (IHHLs) have been constructed since October 2, 2014 to December 20, 2018 in the country. The Sanitation coverage in the country which was 38.7 per cent in October 2014 has increased to 97.64 per cent in the country by now and total of 5,37,038 villages in the country have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF).
Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi, Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation informed Rajya Sabha Member, Parimal Nathwani in a written reply to his question.
The Minister’s reply in the House also included that with 100 per cent Sanitation Coverage in the State of Jharkhand, as many as 33,44,395 individual household latrines (IHHLs) have been constructed so far and 29,564 villages have been declared ODF under SBM-G. The Minister also stated that the Central Government has released Rs.1627.92 Crore till now from 2015-16 to the State of Jharkhand under SBM-G.
The Government had launched the SBM-G on 02.10.2014 with an aim to achieve 100per cent ODF in India by 02.10.2019 by providing access to toilet facilities to all Rural Households in the country.
