A Continuing Medical Education (CME) Cum Workshop programme with the title ‘Managing Obstetric Emergencies’ was hosted at Mahant Indiresh Hospital on Monday.
The programme was organised jointly by department of gynaecology, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Government Doon Medical College and Jivdaya Foundation, U.S.A. Dr Anil Kumar Mehta, principal, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, inaugurated the workshop.
While addressing the gathering, Dr Samita Bhardwaj, representative of Jivdaya Foundation, USA said that Jivdaya Foundation is striving across the world to minimise maternal deaths and safety of new born babies.
She said that in Uttarakhand, only two institutions have been selected by Jivdaya Foundation for help. She heaped praise on the efforts being made by Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital and Government Doon Medical College in ensuring safe deliveries and safety of new born babies.
Dr Vineeta Gupta, HOD, department of gynaecology, SGRRIM&HS, said that it is a big challenge to ensure the safety of mothers during deliveries and safety of new born babies. She said that Millennium Development Goal (MDG.) is aimed at minimising maternal deaths and making quality healthcare reach everyone.
She, further, said that in India, the major causes of maternal deaths are excessive bleeding, lack of blood (anemia), pre-eclampsia and infection.
