‘Education should adopt facilitation skills’

Power of learning can bring about a change from childhood says SONAL AHUJA

  • How did you come up with House of Learning?

Being an educationist for over two decades, I understood that there is a critical need to acquire changes in the manner in which the education sector thinks. It was not with respect to how they were working but in which they were thinking. My involvement with youngsters, educators and families have brought me to this phase of self-reflection when I decided to come up with House of Learning to help individuals understand their abilities and furthermore influence those capacities to perform better.

  • You are a self-confessed education Alchemist? Please explain.

With regards to training and its conveyance I call myself self-admitted as I have specific manners and  attitude with regard to child’s learning. I don’t have confidence in being a traditionalist consequently utilise my own examination and practices to make learning condition.

Kids gain proficiency with their best when they are left to be. What's more, I do have any significant bearing this without getting impacted of the outside powers. This is the reason individuals gave me name of educational Alchemist.

  • What challenges did you face?

Difficulties were there and they still continue. Who likes to be told that they are not progressing nicely. Each one of us want to give our best. I know that an outsourced expert can tell you your true worth —  where do you stand and what improvements do you need.

  • What type of counselling do you give ?

I believe in metaphors. Give them stories and prime them up so that they can be on their journey of progressive development, which will take then towards independence and independent learning.

  • Tell us about your project Rehabilitation of Juvenile and the reason behind it?

It was divided into four stages to provide a better experience and consecutive results. Stage 1 was the diagnosis to understand what’s happening in their lives, their circumstances, and the reasons for their choices. Getting into their life cycles and understanding, empathising and listening to them for every individual took two-three hours.

We call it ATC. Adjustments x Time= Consequences. All teenagers take stupid risks that they one day look back on and wonder what they were thinking. But studies have found it is not because teens aren’t thinking about the risks involved—it’s because they think about them longer than adults. Yes, that’s counter-intuitive.

  • What ideology and changes should Indian education system adopt?

Indian Education system should adopt facilitation skills. The system should not be teaching led rather it should be learning led. One point of view is that instruction isn’t about any pre-characterised results rather offering of numerous exposures to the tyke’s mindfulness and after that the youngster bodes well out of these to make his or her own life. Regardless — on the off chance that we glance back at the last two thousand years of human presence — any sort of training/religion/reasoning/culture — at all — has not counteracted division, divergence, bias, and so on in our general public.

  • How would you convince parents to adopt home schooling?

We know it’s not an easy task to change anyone’s mindset but we are trying to communicate to schools also, to adopt good teaching methodology which is not only about Government drafted curriculum but students interests too.

  • Future plans.

We will be touching children in schools to bring a major change in youth. The major focus will be on designing the consequences that they will produce. It’s always been a formula to do adjustments in a particular time to produce a certain outcome.
