Mines tribunal stays K’taka Govt order that bars NMDC from mining

Mines tribunal, hearing the a petition filed by NMDC challenging the Government of Karnataka order withdrawing the extension of mining lease of Donimalai Iron Ore granted to the former in 2018, has stayed the Karnataka Government’s order till next hearing. The tribunal on Wednesday in its order said that “accordingly the impugned order dated August 17, 2019 and any consequent action thereon are stayed until the next date of hearing”

The said stay order would prohibit the Government of Karnataka to take any further action regarding mining lease or initiate auction process of Donimalai mine.

NMDC on August 19, 2019 filed a Revision Petition before the Mines Tribunal, challenging the Government of Karnataka’s arbitrary order of withdrawing the extension of mining lease of Donimalai Iron Ore Mine granted to it on November 2, 2018, according to a press note issued by the Government of India enterprise.

The petition challenges the Karnataka Government’s August 17 order that withdraws the extension of lease of Donimalai Iron Ore Mine, granted earlier for a period of 20 years till November 3, 2038.
