Cong confident of wresting power from BJP: Selja

Tuesday, 08 October 2019 | Deepak Kumar Jha | New Delhi

nNewly-appointed Haryana Congress chief Kumari Selja on Monday exuded confidence of wresting power from the BJP as she claimed the people of the State have understood that this Government is of only “jumlebaazi”.

Asserting that the “Modi wave” has fizzled out, Selja said while the youth are restless, the ruling Manohar Lal Khattar dispensation is busy dishing out fudged figures to showcase its performance. These

will be investigated, she insisted.

Selja, who took over the reins of Haryana Congress that is hit hard by internal squabbling and has witnessed her predecessor quitting the party leveling serious allegations of part tickets being sold to candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls, said the grand old party is intact even as she claimed it is, in fact, the ruling BJP that is in trouble in the State.

Selja alleged that the Khattar Government has failed miserably and been unable to realize the promises made by the party in two General Elections and the last State assembly elections.

“What can you think of a Government which took out vacancies for about 4,500 posts that saw a record 15 lakh applicants taking the recruitment exams? This reflects the state of restlessness within the youth who are the main pillars in building of a nation and State. Both Khattar and his supremo Modi (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) have been best at serving jumlebaazi than the people,” Selja said in an exclusive interview to The Pioneer.

When asked about Article 370, Selja said the people of Haryana have already understood the real mindset of the BJP and particularly, the chief minister.

“If they propagate Article 370 in Assembly election campaigning that is fine. But we will point out how they showed disrespect to the women community when the Chief Minister himself stated that boys of Haryana can bring Kashmiri girls and marry. What a sick-minded people they are.

Are women and girls commodities? Not only Khattar but several of the BJP men have used similar language soon after abrogation of the Article 370,” Selja, a former Union Minister, said.

On whether the Congress has a counter to Modi’s charisma during the campaigns, Selja expressed confidence that this time the Congress will form the government as people have realized the difference and dangers of voting on the basis of jumlebaaazi.     Selja did not also buy the theory of Haryana’s improved sex ratio, which till some time ago was skewed in favour of boys. She said it is now quite evident the entire system has been delivering to people fudged figures.

“When Congress comes to power many investigations and inquiries will be conducted into such issues and claims,” she said.

Despite the Congress facing criticism internally too for not being able to fulfil its farm loans waiver promise in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan,

Selja said the Congress will give loan waivers to the poor and farmers in Haryana if voted to power.

“The loan waiver promise would be part of the manifesto to be announced soon. We are working to waive loans of farmers and mazdoor category who might have taken small loans to meet their demands,” said Selja.

She said the manifesto would announce the loan waiver implementations within days of assuming power as done in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

On a question about the Congress’ Chief Ministerial candidate, Selja said it is always decided by the party high command after the polls.

And when asked about Tanwar’s resignation and his allegations Selja said the grand old party has seen such rebellions in the past and has always come out stronger due to its inherent strengths. “The Congress has the resilience to take these things.” Selja added. Tanwar was even named as Congress’ star campaigner for Haryana.
