WB Cabinet announces 10% EWS quota in Govt jobs

Wednesday, 03 July 2019 | Saugar Sengupta | Kolkata

Much in line with the Narendra Modi Government, the Mamata Banerjee Government has finally decided to soothe feelings of economically weak general castes even as the Government on Tuesday decided to reserve 10 per cent jobs for the economically poorer section of the people that came from the general caste category.

Speaking to reporters State Parliamentary affairs Minister Partho Chatterjee said the State Cabinet had decided to reserve 10 percent jobs for the economically weaker sections. This will be in addition to the reservation granted to the other categories.

“Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to reserve 10 percent jobs for the economically backward section of the society and this was passed in the State Cabinet,” Chatterjee said adding the reservation thus granted would be in addition to the reservations earmarked for the other categories.

“This means that those from the SC, ST or other classes will not come under this category,” he said.
