Taking an important decision regarding protection women and provide speedy justice to the victims DGP Vijay Kumar Singh has issued circular to all Inspector General of Police to complete investigation of crimes against women within the time limit and failing would attract departmental inquiries and penalise police officers for unnecessary delays in delays and negligence.

He had emphasised on the prompt and timely completion of investigation for delivering verdict by the court and meeting justice on time to the victim.

DGP has mentioned in the circular that there is a statutory provision to complete the investigation in cases of sexual offenses against women within a period of two months and cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act should be disposed in a month.

He has instructed through the circulars that in cases of crimes against women there is no clear time frame for investigation and it should be completed in three months.

It cases which are completed within the time limit the accountability of the concerned police officer should be determined and a departmental inquiry conducted against him. For investigation of every criminal case related to women beyond three months the concerned police station in-charge will have to obtain separate orders from the District Superintendent of Police.

The SP will be allowed to proceed with the investigation for a maximum of three further DIG will be allowed to continue the investigation for two months and IG would be authorized to grant permission for three additional months at a time to continue the investigation for more than a year.
