‘Ensure free and fair urban bodies’ polls in state’

Chief Secretary R.P. Mandal on Thursday instructed senior administrative and police officials to ensure free and fair urban bodies’ elections in the state.

He was chairing a review meeting of district collectors and superintendents of police to assess preparations for the polls expected to be held by the fag end of December this year.

State Election Commissioner Thakur Ram Singh, Secretary Home Subrat Sahu and Director General of Police (DGP) D.M. Awasthi were also present in the meeting.

Terming the polls important and sensitive, the CS instructed the officials to work in coordination to conduct the elections peacefully. Chhattisgarh has a record of transparent as well as free and fair polls and this has to be   continued, he said.

DGP Awasthi instructed the police officials to maintain law and order by being vigilant and by taking precautions by    learning from past experiences.

State Election Commissioner Singh briefed the meeting about minute details of the elections and reviewed districtwise           preparations.
