‘Nikhaar’ programme introduced for students of 8th and 9th standards

‘Nikhaar’ programme aimed at academic improvement of students of 8th and 9th standards in government schools has been started.

A baseline evaluation of students will be done, and for their intellectual progress necessary steps will be taken.

Chhattisgarh State Council for Educational Training and Research (SCERT) organised a orientation of state and district officials under ‘Nikhaar 2019-2020’ programme where School Education department Principal Secretary Gaurav Dwivedi laid emphasis on honest efforts to bring improvement among the students after baseline survey.

The technical support for the programme is provided by ‘The Transform Trust.’

Under the programme, similar schemes run in other states are being studied and based on requirement of the state the educational materials are being prepared.

In first phase, 10 districts of Bijapur, Kanker, Mahasamund, Gariaband, Raipur, Durg, Baloda Bazar, Bilaspur, Janjgir-Champa and Korba will be covered. During the summer holidays the master trainers will be prepared.

Before re-opening of the school, the teachers of classes 8 and 9 teaching Hindi, English, mathematics and science will be imparted training for three days. All the school headmasters and principals will be given one-day training for implementation of the programme.

The programme will have regular classes for 69 days within which 200-hour classes will be held. The first 18 days will have foundation programme, where one hour Hindi, English, Mathematics and Science classes will be organised. In next 45 days, per subject 45-minute classes will be taken daily where learning outcome will be focused so that concepts of children are clear.

In the third and final phase, six-day concluding camp for English, mathematics and science subjects will be taken covering 45 minutes per subject. The students will be prepared for appearing in examination. The children will then undergo end-line test like baseline. Then analysis of each student based on report will be done and improvement will be recorded.

Based on the result, the programme will be implemented in other districts.
