150 prisoners released on Gandhi Jayanti

On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the release of 150 prisoners from jails on Wednesday.
An official communiqué released on Wednesday said that the government decided to release 150 convicts who had already completed their terms but could not get out for failing to pay cash fine slapped on them.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Jail Reforms) Awanish Awasthi said that DG Prisons Anand Kumar was directed to release such prisoners from jails on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Wednesday.
The 150 prisoners were released from Ghaziabad, Rampur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bijnor, Aligarh, Bahraich, Kheri, Kanpur Nagar, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Sultanpur, Meerut, Agra, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Mirzapur, Maharajganj, Hardoi, Moradabad, Bareilly, Rae Bareli, Orai, Naini, Balrampur, Ayodhya, Jhansi, Fatehpur, Gonda, Chitrakoot, Sonbhadra, Etawah, Barabanki, Badaun, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Pilibhit, Unnao, Mau, Deoband and Mahoba jails.
