182 couples tie nuptial knot in Garhwa

In an attempt to help out underprivileged families in weddings, 182 couples belonging to various communities tied the knot at a mass marriage ceremony organised at Gaosaibagh, Banshidhar Nagar on Tuesday. Jharkhnd Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Kanhaiya Chaubey, which organised the event, bore all expenses.

Amid colourful ambiance of the venue and showering petals, 182 couples from different castes and communities got married in a mass wedding ceremony. All 182 bridegrooms arrived at the venue on chariot with their relatives dancing to the tunes of the band. Organisers had arranged lunch for the relatives and families of all the couples.

A pundit delivered instructions over the microphone, and all couples performed the rituals in unison. The couples circumambulated the fire seven times, while rituals unique to each family were held in the mass mandaps. A maulvi performed Nikah of 11 muslim couples.

Kanhaiya Chaubey who is the JMM central committee member said, "Daughters should not be considered as burdens. She is the Goddess of the house. Today, I feel blessed to be the father of 182 daughters.” He said that the society has a stigma. He urged the mother to boycott dowry. He announced the marriage of 251 couple in January next year in 2020.

Many local political, religious and social personalities were present on the occasion. Among those present were President of Co-Student Front of Sili Amit Mahto, Tanveer Alam Vinod Tiwari, Social Worker Anup Tiwari, District of JMM General Secretary Manoj Thakur, Achyutanand Tiwari, Sadar Kalam Khan, Sadar Taslim Khan, District Coordinator of All India Gayatri Family Vinod Pathak, Rajkumar Ram.
